Auld Lang Syne
Should old acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance be forgot in the days of Auld lang syne?
This New Year’s classic, originally written as a poem by the Scottish poet Robert Burns in 1788 and made famous by the great bandleader Guy Lombardo is a New Year’s staple. We gather around and raise our glasses, hug our loved ones and sing a song that starts with the question if we should forget the past and simply look to the future.
For auld lang syne, my dear for auld lang syne
We drink a cup of kindness yet for auld lang syne
In the second stanza, the poem quickly answers the question by suggesting we grab a drink and with kindness remember the past as the gift that it was.
And surely, you will buy your cup: And surely, I’ll buy mine!
We’ll take a cup of kindness yet: For the sake of auld lang syne.
Kindness did not however include me buying your drink, stressing the frugality of the times.
Your team at the High Net Worth Advisory Group LLC looks fondly upon the past as well as optimistically about the future. We realize that meeting and working with each of you this past year has been a great honor and a responsibility we do not take lightly. For the future, the addition of the High Net Worth Tax Advisory Group LLC is our way of showing you that we listened to you and want to be able to provide you with one call for all investment, financial planning and tax needs.
For those who have read our client letter over the years you realize that we always try to write with an optimistic tone and leave you with a life lesson. We understand we are first and foremost an investment firm and not motivational authors. We are also aware that we can’t (and no one can) predict what may happen in the financial future so why write about it. We save the investment conversations for our in person and over the phone meetings and use these letters to let you know how much you and your families all mean to us.
Yet, unlike the poem, next time we are together, we will share stories and memories about the past, discuss your family’s future and …… we will buy your cup! Have a safe, healthy and Happy New Year!
